Going back to school | Cupcake decorating

Those of you who have been reading my posts know that I have been trying my hand at fondant birthday cakes. Well lucky me, my husband has been reading too and this past Christmas he bought me a cupcake decorating class, which I completed this past February. I loved it! What an amazing experience for people wanting to try out different techniques with an expert right there to help you every step of the way.

The class was given by Le Dolci (Dundas and Ossington). They make custom cakes and cupcakes as well as give classes on everything from Baking Bootcamp to Perfect Parisian Macaroons. The Introduction to Cupcake Decorating was two hours long. After they welcome you with a delicious breakfast cupcake they provide you with 12 pre-made cupcakes (which you get to take home at the end of the class). The first hour we focused on fondant; how to handle, colour, and roll, and using various types of textures and molds. The next hour was spent with butter cream frosting (which they provided already pre-coloured in piping bags). They showed us how to put a tip on a piping bag, and the proper way to squeeze out the icing and we experimented with tons of tips (until this class I had used exactly 1 tip although I have a whole collection that I didn’t know how to use). I am so excited for my next party where I can try out my new skills!

My gaggle of cupcakes is starting to come together, my favourites? The buttercream pink flowers!
My finished products, I was so please, thank you Jeremy!
SOOOOO jealous! I would LOVE to do this, I love experimenting with decorating but they never end up as ‘pinterest perfect’ as I imagine lol. These cakes look amazing! I may have to drop a few hints to my husband 😉
I didn’t put this in the post, but I may have dropped a few hints (over a couple of years) sometimes it takes a while to catch 🙂
