Cookie Auction | Raising money with holiday spirit

It’s a new kind of cookie exchange! This holiday season consider doing a cookie auction with your workplace and donate the proceeds to good cause. One of my favourite charities is Holiday Helpers. Last year they raised enough funds to give 382 families a fully decorated tree, grocery cards for a turkey dinner, and customized holiday gifts for each member of the family!

Hallway Intervention | How to Dress Up Your Radiator

Our front hallway was an eyesore. It’s not very big, and quickly our ugly brown radiator became a catch all for junk; from wet winter boot liners in the winter to garden gloves, and running shoes in the summer. It needed some sprucing up, and I needed some cheering up. I had been to a friend’s house where she had painted her radiators pink in her daughter’s room and I was immediately inspired. Who says the radiator had to stay the builder brown that it had been since the house was built in 1910?

Viking Training I Distressed Birthday Invitation

Hurray, it’s birthday time again! My daughter Calla is turning 9 and she always chooses a theme. This year she wanted it to be “How to Train Your Dragon” and have it at Laser Quest. I’m not a writer by trade, but I did have fun writing the copy. I’m sure however if you asked a real historian (sorry Dad) I’m sure they would take offence to my misappropriation of some words. My daughter loved it though, and I think that’s what matters most!

Birthday CD Favours

Every year I look forward to my children’s birthdays almost as much as they do. What’s the theme going to be? Who are we inviting? What kind of food are we going to serve, decorations etc.? I know, nerdy right? But I’m sure you’re right there with me when it comes to your own kids. My daughter was turning three, and being in daycare meant she had a lot of friends, so we made it easy on ourselves and rented Playground Paradise and asked our neighbourhood musician “Music Tim” to join us. (We had used him for every birthday since we discovered him 3 years prior). In an effort to go green and not give the kids junk from China, I hand-made custom CDs containing a few of Tim’s songs and few from my co-worker Ben Harris. The kids loved them and I think the parents appreciated some new original music to listen to.
