Viking Training I Distressed Birthday Invitation

Hurray, it’s birthday time again! My daughter Calla is turning 9 and she always chooses a theme. This year she wanted it to be “How to Train Your Dragon” and have it at Laser Quest. I’m not a writer by trade, but I did have fun writing the copy. I’m sure however if you asked a real historian (sorry Dad) I’m sure they would take offence to my misappropriation of some words. My daughter loved it though, and I think that’s what matters most!

Butterfly Art | Birthday Decor & Craft

Last spring, I was looking for a craft to do with my then 3-year old Robin. We decided to make large  painted butterflies and I thought it would be fun to hang them off the ceiling in her bedroom. While the crafting went very well, when it came time to hang the butterflies, Robin freaked out and was terrified of having them hang from the ceiling. They seemed too pretty to just throw out so I stuck them in the cupboard hoping to use them at some point later. Fast forward 6 months to October  – in the midst of planning a co-birthday party with her friend, I remembered the butterflies and they turned out to be great party decor. They also would have been a great birthday party or play date craft.

Hawaiian Stitch Themed Birthday Party and a “Cake Free” Cake!

My son requested a Stitch-themed birthday party. This year was going to be different, I was going to create less work for myself!  To do this, I planned to make him a cake that he would actually eat and do away with the “traditional” cake. I usually make a traditional cake for the rest of the kids and make him a pie. But not this year. This year I had a plan…a Rice Krispies Treat cake! Easy to make, easy to mould, and loved by all. Turns out I am not the first person to think of this. If you Google Rice Krispies cake, tons of great inspiration comes up.

“My Valentine” Gift Bag

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and I always like to get the kids a few treats. I try and keep them away from too much candy the rest of the year, but they get a pass on holidays. I wanted something cute and Valentine-y that could hold a bit of candy and a card, so I grabbed my bottomless bag of felt and whipped up some heart-shaped, monogrammed gift bags.
