Rag Doll | Basic Sewing

My daughter turned 2 recently, and I wracked my brain over her gift. She has tons of clothes and the relatives get her even more clothes and all the latest name-brand toys. Plastic toys, with whirring sounds and automated coos, flashing lights and sound effects are all very exciting for her. But, a couple of months (days?) later she has set them off to the side and is playing with a cardboard box or something. We got her a few gifts, but I wanted to make something for her. Something that she would keep for years. I made her a little girl doll and she loves it! Hugging it and giving it kisses are a big part of her day. It’s a pretty wacky looking doll, but at least she can say that no-one else has one like it. I’m envisioning it sitting on her bed at 16, as she says to everyone who comes into her room, “Look at the weird doll my Mom made me when I was a kid.”

DIY Rock Climbing Birthday Invitation

This past year we tried out rock climbing at the Deerhurst Resort and my son loved it. He surprised us by making it all the way to the top several times. So this year’s birthday party theme was pretty easy to come up with! As with all projects, I searched around on the net looking for some great inspiration and found Martha Stewart’s rock climbing invite. LOVED it! So I went out to source all of the materials. I wanted the tag to relate a bit more to the six year old boys that we would be sending the invites to, so I designed a logo for the event, which I am intending to put on T-shirts to hand out at the party. Boys Rock!

Spa in a Grocery Bag | DIY Bath and Body Products

Summer’s over, and it’s been crazy. So, to start the school year off right, I needed some rejuvenation. As it’s not always cost- or time-effective to hit a day spa, I thought I’d make a quick run to the grocery store and create my own simple products to replicate a relaxing day at the spa. There are SO many options for d.i.y. face masks and hair treatments, I could fill an entire website. But I’m starting here with the basics. Perhaps I’ll do another post some time in the future with further suggestions for a spa-in-a-grocery-bag.

Littlest Pet Shop | Birthday Food & Drinks

LPS_Party_Food_1 LPS_Party_Drinks

With the Littlest Pet Shop  invitations gone and and the decorations finished (see earlier posts: Invitations and Decorations) all that remained to do was sort out the snacks, drinks and cake. For the snacks  and cupcakes the kids and I made toppers. I simply downloaded LPS characters, created name badges for the food such as “Bird Food” and “Mouse nibbles” and toppers for the cupcakes. We cut them out and glued them to to sucker sticks and toothpicks, respectively.
