Littlest Pet Shop | Birthday Food & Drinks

LPS_Party_Food_1 LPS_Party_Drinks

With the Littlest Pet Shop  invitations gone and and the decorations finished (see earlier posts: Invitations and Decorations) all that remained to do was sort out the snacks, drinks and cake. For the snacks  and cupcakes the kids and I made toppers. I simply downloaded LPS characters, created name badges for the food such as “Bird Food” and “Mouse nibbles” and toppers for the cupcakes. We cut them out and glued them to to sucker sticks and toothpicks, respectively.

Smucker’s Breakfast Time Story Snacks

Smuckers_360

Children’s author Ted Staunton helps launch Smucker’s Breakfast Time Story

School’s out! And the kids are constantly going to be asking you for snacks. Here’s a great way to satisfy snack-time and keep the learning going throughout the summer months (and beyond). Read together with your kids and create some fun recipes inspired by the story! It’s a great way to get your children to discuss the books they read, and vary the snack routine.

At the beginning of June, The Motherboards attended a Bookworm Breakfast at Lillian H. Smith Library, hosted by Smucker’s. Prolific children’s author Ted Staunton was featured, reading his popular picture book Puddleman.

Smucker’s invented some crazy snacks based on Ted Staunton’s books that we got to put together with our children. We’re happy to be able to share them with you, below. You and your kids can come up with any sort of fun meal influenced by their favourite stories. Get creative!

Smucker’s has also launched a Breakfast Time Story promotion with Staunton to help get families excited about reading together. The contest runs until August 6, and the lucky winner will have a professionally bound book written by Staunton about their own family. Just click here to enter for your chance to win.* Read more

BBQ Spice Rub | Father’s Day Gift

I had planned on skipping Father’s Day this year (looong story which involved a very lame Mother’s day), however the reality is that I love celebrating holidays and I want my daughters to have an appreciation for them too. And although my husband sucks when it comes to Mother’s Day (yes Kyle, now the whole world knows it!), my husband is a great dad and he deserves a special day of recognition.

I wanted Robin to get involved with her Dad’s gift and since she loves helping me bake so much, I found a gift idea that fit both Kyle’s love of barbecuing and her love of measuring spoons perfectly – a BBQ spice rub!

We got up yesterday and spent the morning discussing Father’s Day, spices and shopping. By the time we got to the Bulk Food store, Robin was over-the-moon, talking about spices and how she would stir them together in her bowl. You’d think we were going to be baking cupcakes by the amount of enthusiasm she had! After lunch and a quick nap, I couldn’t hold her back any longer – it was time to break out the measuring spoons. We used a recipe from a really fun cooking blog – My Life as a Mrs. This blog has delicious recipes and is a good read!  After stirring all the ingredients together, a trip to Dollarama to find jars, and a quick one-handed Photoshop label design (while holding a fussy baby) – our spice rub gifts were complete.
