I’m a big fan of breathing new life into old things. This oversized frame project takes a hideously ornate frame – the kind you often see at thrift stores (or on the curb!) – and creates a beautiful statement piece for your wall. I was looking for something to fill a space above my daughter’s dresser and when my elderly neighbour was cleaning out her house, I quickly snapped this up (much to her shock….’why would you want such an ugly thing?’)

Our front hallway was an eyesore. It’s not very big, and quickly our ugly brown radiator became a catch all for junk; from wet winter boot liners in the winter to garden gloves, and running shoes in the summer. It needed some sprucing up, and I needed some cheering up. I had been to a friend’s house where she had painted her radiators pink in her daughter’s room and I was immediately inspired. Who says the radiator had to stay the builder brown that it had been since the house was built in 1910?

It all started with an old mirror that had been hanging around in my basement patiently awaiting my inspiration to arise. And it eventually did. I was getting tired of the loose pens, coupons and overflowing pinboard in my kitchen and the frame of this mirror was the perfect size to create something new.
