1 Hour Pumpkin Costume | Halloween for babies

This is an easy sewing project, even if you are a novice. It took me less than an hour (after materials were sourced) and the results are fabulous! Who doesn’t love a baby in a pumpkin costume and I guarantee you will get back in loot what you spent on the costume. Happy Sewing!

COLEstumes | DIY Halloween Costumes

Some of my favourite childhood memories are the homemade Halloween costumes my mother used to make. I have five older brothers and two younger sisters so this was no small feat. One year we were a very colourful Chinese dragon complete with a huge paper mache head made out of chicken wire and strips of newspaper, worn by my eldest brother with the rest of us trailing behind in order of height to my little sister bringing up the tail. Another year we were all King Tut, well seven Tuts and one Queen Nefertiti because I refused to wear a boy costume!

Custom T-shirts and Loot bags | Rock Climbing Party

Those of you who read my last post know that our theme for my son’s party this year was rock climbing. I wanted to make the boys a keepsake to remember the day by, so I used the logo I had previously designed for the invitations and made t-shirts out of them. For the loot bags I used scrap pieces of fabric and added rock climbing touches. The kids loved the t-shirts and my homemade gorp!

Rag Doll | Basic Sewing

My daughter turned 2 recently, and I wracked my brain over her gift. She has tons of clothes and the relatives get her even more clothes and all the latest name-brand toys. Plastic toys, with whirring sounds and automated coos, flashing lights and sound effects are all very exciting for her. But, a couple of months (days?) later she has set them off to the side and is playing with a cardboard box or something. We got her a few gifts, but I wanted to make something for her. Something that she would keep for years. I made her a little girl doll and she loves it! Hugging it and giving it kisses are a big part of her day. It’s a pretty wacky looking doll, but at least she can say that no-one else has one like it. I’m envisioning it sitting on her bed at 16, as she says to everyone who comes into her room, “Look at the weird doll my Mom made me when I was a kid.”
