Any sugar cookie recipe will do but I have included one in this post. Key is the wrapping. Any cute sugar cookies put in a cellophane bag and finished with a festive ribbon or flower (even fresh) look great. I used a really neat straw flower I have been holding onto for 6 years just for this occasion.
Ingredients (for 2 dozen cookies):
-
3/4 cups butter, softened
-
1 cups white sugar
-
2 eggs
-
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
2.5 cups all-purpose flour
-
1 teaspoons baking powder
-
1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cover, and chill dough for at least one hour (or overnight).
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes with flower or heart or other cookie cutter. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
- Bake 6 to 8 minutes in preheated oven. Cool completely.
- Decorate (add some sugar to hot water to make your “glue”. Brush cookie with sugar water and dip cookie upside down in a low dish with your colored sugar sparkles. Get creative!
