Union Jack Pegboard Headboard | Children’s Room Decor

We are thrilled to be able to feature a fantastic kid’s bedroom creation from Carmel, founder and author of Our Fifth House.

Carmel had three problems to solve regarding the bed in her son’s room and time was tight as she wanted everything to be completed by his eighth birthday. Follow her process as she creates a fantastic bed and headboard perfect for an 8-year-old boy.

Pirate Piñata

When my son turned 5, he requested a pirate theme for his birthday. Perhaps I’ll go into the other details of the party in a later post, but one of the components that I decided would be fun enough to keep ten 5-year-olds outside on a chilly November day was a piñata. The promise of candy and the chance to wack something triumphed over their chilly fingers and runny noses. Although I’m still finding gold coins in the backyard.

DIY Flower Wall Art | Nursery Decor

In an effort to save money, I had been on the hunt for a DIY art project for the new baby’s (now Brooke’s) room. I did a Google image search and stumbled across this fun blog – It’s Doable: Crafts, Food and Life. Now, like most DIY art projects these days, there are lots of people out there who have created their own flower art using the same technique. I’m sure you could find many variations of this on Pinterest, etc. for inspiration, but  I had my own vision so I didn’t want to be swayed by any other ideas…

What I LOVE about this craft is that it can incorporate as little or as much colour, texture and pattern as you like. While I would love to be able to purchase expensive fabrics for curtains, pillows, etc., it’s just not in the budget. This allows me to introduce colours and patterns into the room without blowing the bank.

Littlest Pet Shop | Birthday Invitations

My daughter has, over the past year, eased herself out of princesses and into horses, Littlest Pet Shop and Lego. This year’s birthday theme was to be Littlest Pet Shop. Having looked at what was available to purchase, the DIY’er in me decided I could do better. Starting with the invitations, I brainstormed what these could be and settled on dog bone-shaped cookies.
