Vanilla Simple Syrup Hostess Gift

I don’t know about you, but I often find myself visiting friends or neighbours’ homes and wishing that I had something a little more interesting than wine to offer as a hostess gift. Don’t get me wrong – wine is a wonderful gift. But it’s sometimes nice to show up with something a little different.  And who doesn’t love receiving something sweet (and oh so pretty)?

Although it’s great in cocktails, over ice cream, and with summer berries, vanilla-infused simple syrup also pairs nicely with hot cocoa, coffee and pancakes so this is also a lovely gift leading into Fall and the holidays beyond. Just change up your labels to something festive and you’re set!

Viking Birthday Party I Toothless Cake & Loot Bags

Continuing on with the Viking Birthday Party, I didn’t want to go completely over the top with the How to Train your Dragon theme, but including Toothless made my daughter extremely happy. Beautiful cakes are not as hard as you might imagine. Fondant is like making a cake with plasticine, armed with Youtube, a bit of time, and the proper tools, even aspiring cake decorators such as myself can pull one out of a hat. This cake took me 8.5 hours from start to finish.

Rosemary Salt Favours

My little sister is getting married this weekend (!) and just like I did for my wedding, she wanted to make her own wedding favours for her guests. The one idea we all loved — and agreed was doable in an afternoon — was flavoured salt favours. In the end, not only did we get them done from start to finish in a couple of hours, but they were remarkably inexpensive.
