Trailer Bathroom make-over

Last year we bought a brand new trailer, but they only seem to come with “dead ugly” wallpaper . Room by room, I have unleashed my inner DIY tiger to slaughter the ugly. This post showcases the bathroom, and more rooms will be posted soon.

Having just finished the massive living room paint project, changing all wooden trim to white (2 base coats and 3 top coats!!) I decided to “work around the wood” in the bathroom as I found the pale blue I used in the kitchen actually made the wood  look nice.

Paint:

Two layers of base coat to cover the vinyl brown spotted walls, followed by 2 layers of pale blue eggshell topcoat, immediately changed things around.

Boat Paddle Towel Rack

The existing metal towel rack was small and not very inspiring. I had found this amazing old wooden paddle in a thrift shop for $15. Steal! I decided to change it into a towel rack. I painted the paddle with acrylic paint I already had in house (navy blue tip and white bands) and used coffee stain for the darker part of the paddle head. I varnished the paddle with 2 coats of acrylic varnish. I attached the paddle to the wall by sawing off some wooden brackets from an old wooden rack I happened to have and painted those in the same pale blue wall paint to make them as invisible as possible.

You should be able to find another bracket solution in a hardware store.

Décor

I added blue-slate colored items like the shower curtain and bath mat (working with the nice existing hues from the bathroom floor).

Gold looks lovely on this kind of pale blue so I added a few gold frames with photo enlargements of some nice shots I took last year of the family at the lake.

Value Village gave me a few small treasures like the blue and white vase I designated to hold our toothbrushes.

A tiny, hand-stamped curtain for the small window replaced the scary frilly thing that was there before (I don’t ever know what they call that…). To find out how to handstamp fabric, check out my earlier post.
